That the club shall be called the Lions Men's Social Club, 17 West Quay, Bridgwater, TA6 3HW
To hold property on behalf of the bonified members and to be known as the owners.
In the event of the death or misconduct of the trustee or trustees concerned, he or they will be replaced by a new trustee or trustees, whichever applies, and subjected to approval of the management.
In the event of the club "winding up" the property will be sold and proceeds of the sale to be dealt with by the members who are the sole beneficiaries as they see fit.
That the objects of the club shall be to promote the intellectual improvements of its members and to provide a place of accommodation for reading and social recreation.
That the members shall comprise a secretary, chairman and treasurer and ordinary members, temporary members, joining members and lady members.
That the affairs of the club shall be managed by the personal holder and a sub committee of sixteen members, Eight to form a quorum. The premises licence holder shall be a member of the executive committee during the time he holds the personal holders position to sell intoxicating liquor for the club. He will attend meeting as all other committee members and shall not retire from the committee during the time he holds the premises license holders position for the club. That the committee be elected by ballot at the annual general meeting of the club to be held in April of every year and that eight members retire annually, the retiring members to be eligible for re-election.
That an executive committee sub-elected by the management committee from four of its members and with the premises license holder, secretary and treasurer be responsible to purchase and and supply by the club intoxicating liquor. To be elected annually for not less than one year and not more than five years. To present at monthly meetings accounts for the previous month and an independent examination of the clubs finances to be undertaken by a chartered accountant or similar qualified person by the 30th April each year and a certified balance sheet and statement of accounts to be presented to members at the annual general meeting for their approval.
Nominations for committee to be sent to the secretary fourteen days prior to the annual general meeting. If a vacancy shall at any time occur in the committee such vacancy shall be filled by the committee and the person or persons elected shall retire at the same period as the person or persons by whom such vacancy was caused would retire. Any nomination for the committee has to be a full member for two years.
Any member of the committee ceasing to be a member of the club or any member absent from three consecutive meetings of the committee shall, unless he sends a written explanation which the committee shall deem satisfactory cease to be a member of the committee, any member resigning from the committee shall not be able to re-apply for twelve months.
General powers, the committee shall conduct the general business of the club and regulate the internal management and shall have the power to enforce rules and to interpret the rules and be sole arbitrators on any questions that may arise and which is not provided for in these rules and have the power to make such bye-laws and alter and rescind same as may be necessary for the conduct of the club in conformity with the rules. The committee will be deemed as an active committee, committee members may be asked at times to help in activities within the club.
No resolutions passed by the committee shall be rescinded unless notice shall have been given at a previous meeting of the committee of intention to propose such rescission.
That the secretary be appointed at the annual general meeting of the members and shall hold during the pleasure of the club any vacancy in the office to be filled protem by the committee.
Secretary's general duties, The secretary shall on occasions in the execution of his office act under superintendence, control and direction of the committee of management and shall with the treasurer make sure that all monies received are banked, they shall keep the accounts documents and papers of the club in such a manner and for such purposes as the committee may appoint. He shall summon and attend all meetings and minutes of the proceedings. The secretary shall be supplied by the commitee with copies of all rules and shall be bound to deliver a copy there of to each member of the club.
That the treasurer be appointed at the annual general meeting of the members and shall hold during the pleasure of the club any vacancy in the office to be filled protem by the committee.
Treasurer's general duties, The treasurer shall on occasions in the execution of his office act under superintendence, control and direction of the committee of management and shall receive moneys on account of the club at the clubs designated bank. He shall prepare the annual balance sheet and submit to the chartered accountant of the club. The treasurer shall be supplied by the secretary with copies of the rules and attend meetings as the rest of the committee.
No person shall be admitted a member under eighteen years of age and all applications for membership shall be signed by the applicant who by doing so shall pledge himself or herself to abide by the rules of the club in the event of him or her being elected a member.
Every candidate for membership shall be proposed by a member of the committee and seconded by a ordinary member of the club. His or her full name and address and the names of the proposer and seconder shall be communicated to the secretary in writing who shall those particulars to be exhibited prominently on the notice board of the club for a period of at least fourteen days before election as a member. Until the candidate is elected he/she shall not be entitled to any of the privileges of the club. Members of the club shall be ordinary members, honourary members and lady members. Lady members will not be allowed at the annual general meeting but can sign two guests per day. The election of candidate to membership shall be exercised by the management committee.
To report undesirable candidates. Any member who shall be of opinion that any candidate proposed would not be a desirable member, shall make a signed statement of objection to the secretary who shall lay it before the committee.
That the yearly subscriptions be decided upon by the full committee of management. The subscriptions to cover all types of membership, all subscriptions to be payable in advance and members held responsible for their subscriptions.
Members children over 14 years will be allowed but are not permitted to use any gaming machines or make purchases at the bar and have to be signed in a under eighteens book, no other persons under eighteen will be allowed.
That the committee shall have the power of expelling any member of the club who shall in there opinion have rendered there self unworthy of belonging to it. The committee shall give the offending member seven days notice of there intention to consider there conduct and such member shall have the right to attend the meeting of the committee for the purpose of making any explanation. Every such expulsion shall be decided on by a majority of the committee present at the meeting of not less than ten members.
Every member/temporary member shall produce ticket of receipt or membership card whenever called upon to do so by a person authorised by the management committee to make such a demand on the club premises.
No Gambling, drunkenness, bad language or disorderly conduct shall be permitted on the club premises. Any infringement of the rule will rendor the member offending liable to expulsion from the club. It shall be the duty of the officers or members of the club to take every available means of putting a stop to the offences in question and to report them forthwith and the committee through secretary.
That the committee shall be bound upon the requisition of twenty five members to call an extra ordinary general meeting or the committee shall be at liberty to do so of there own authority. Specifying the object and giving seven days notice of such meeting.
The sale of intoxicating Liquor for consumption on the premises shall be governed by the conditions attached to the justices licence granted in respect of the premises.
New rules or alterations of the existing rules may from time to time be made subject to the following conditions fourteen days notice of the intention to propose any new rule or repeal or alter any existing rule shall be given to the secretary in writing who shall inform of the same to every member seven days before the annual general meeting of the club. A majority vote of at least 51% will be required to change existing rules.
Every member shall be permitted periodically to introduce two guests and the same guests shall be allowed to be invited up to and including five times during the period of one calendar month. The name and address of the guest/s and the member introduced the same shall be written in the visitors book kept for that purpose. If the member leaves the premises then the guest shall leave to, any member not following these rules faces expulsion.
The committee shall keep on the club premises a register of the names and addresses of the members. Every member shall within fourteen days give notice to the secretary of any change of address. The names of those who cease to be members shall be removed from the register.
Members shall cease to be members by non payment of the subscription. Any person who's membership has ceased from the club shall not again be nominated for membership for one year.
Members of club games teams and there supporters visiting the club for games contest shall be temporary members of the club for the day of there visit. A nomination form containing the names of such persons signed by the captain of there team on admittance to the club. A person whose usual residence is outside Sedgemoor can apply for temporary membership for not more than one month at a time. The Sum will be determined by the committee. Temporary members are not permitted to vote or be at an annual general meeting.
The committee shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of these rules and regulations. From time to time made by the committee and the decisions of the committee upon any question of the interpretation or upon any matter affecting the club and not providing for by the rules or regulations shall be final and binding on members.
